Asia One takes the audience into the heart of a sort center in China in the era of automization of systems of production and distribution, where a romance that is as unlikely as it is surreal develops between two employees. The only human beings in this giant facility, they are surrounded by state-of-the-art infrastructure, smart robots and a multitude of packages and parcels in perpetual motion. Just when solitude seems to be their daily reality, a bond is gradually forged between the two employees, who begin to rebel against the efficiency and predictability of the sort center.
With this film, Cao Fei combines social commentary, mainstream aesthetics, nods to surrealism and documentary elements in an artistic idiom that has resonated around the whole world in recent years.
