From the 1st to the 30th of June, La Cinémathèque de Toulouse invites Alain Guiraudie for a retrospective and an evening when he has free rein. An unparalleled storyteller, each of his films takes us into unusual territory. Du soleil pour les gueux, Pas de repos pour les braves, Le Roi de l'évasion, L'Inconnu du lac (Director's Prize at Cannes 2013), Rester vertical and Viens, je t'emmène depict multiple spaces that seem equally familiar and foreign. Come to see his films (again), and the films that inspire him, that he loves and that he wants to share with you.
His latest film, Miséricorde, is being shown at Cannes this year as a special screening.

In the desertlike Grand Causse region, Nathalie Sanchez, an unemployed hairdresser in Millau, is on a quest for the mythical ouymane shepherds. An offbeat and minimalist western that recaptures the raw magic of primitive tales. Cinema basking in sunshine, with pride of place for nature and wide-open spaces to create a real cinematic alternative.
9pm – Alain Guiraudie has free rein: HER, Spike Jonze, 2013, USA, 126 min, preceded by La force des choses, Alain Guiraudie 1997, France, 16 min.
What could be more banal than installing a new operating system on your computer? But when it has the unique ability to adapt to each individual user, things take a whole new turn. This is how Theodore Twombly meets the Samantha system, a particularly intuitive and seductive artificial intelligence. Between utopia and dystopia, a love story that was previously impossible. Technology at the service of a funny drama, and Spike Jonze capturing something of his time, but above all of modern solitude.
Both films presented by Alain Guiraudie.
A food-truck and DJ set will complete the evening in the Cinémathèque courtyard.
